Trinidad & Tobago’s good cocoa recognised internationally

Two (2) of the five (5) samples submitted from Trinidad and Tobago to the Cocoa of Excellence 2017, International Cocoa Awards, Salon du Chocolat, Paris France, have been selected among the best 50 bean samples globally, to be celebrated at the Salon du Chocolat, Paris, France later this year.

This has been confirmed by the Cocoa Development Company of Trinidad and Tobago (CDCTTL).

The chosen Trinidad and Tobago samples originated from the San Juan Estate, Gran Couva and the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries’ Rio Claro Demonstration Station.

The 50 bean samples will be processed into chocolate and the next step will be the sensory evaluation by a large panel of 40 experts during the month of September.

Thereafter, 12-15 of the 50 finalists would be winners of International Cocoa Awards (ICA). The International Cocoa Awards (ICA) ceremony will be held on Monday 30 October 2017.

The CDCTTL says it eagerly awaits the announcement of the final results of the ICA Awards.

It is certain that T&T will again be winners.

Trinidad and Tobago has successively received awards since the inception of the ICA in 2009 and every two years thereafter.

All previous winners excelled in the various sensory flavour profiles found in award winning high end chocolates.

The Salon du Chocolat is a celebration of the excellence of quality and diversity among cocoa producers worldwide.

Trinidad and Tobago’s participation was facilitated by the Cocoa Development Company of Trinidad and Tobago (CDCTTL)
